The Homeschool Mother's Journal - 6

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week:
DH was sick (see man-cold video below!), I was sick, Video Boy was sick. Looks like Wombat Girl might be getting sick (ar-choo!).  Blech. Just better in time to go to (paid) work! Yay! Not.

In our homeschool this week:
We started a new book "Who Really Killed Cock Robin?" (see our new Book Carousel to the right) as part of our science unit. Wonderful stuff - looks at the world through a complex, systems view. Life is not simple. Neither are a the answers to our problems! Found some fabulous links to lesson plans based on this book.

We finished off decimals with a chapter revision worksheet (and a few tears from Video Boy because his mean ol' mum made him do "school work").

Continued our work on democracy and elections, with this link to Discovering Democracy, which fits in nicely to the Australian curriculum, but overseas readers might enjoy it too.

Kids (and DH) loving working on Short Circuits electronics kits with no soldering! Video Boy enjoyed electricity last year at school, but is enjoying creating his own electronic circuits (serial and parallel) at home a lot more.

Places we're going and people we're seeing:

Luckily most of the illness cleared up by Friday and we had a fabulous weekend in Sydney! It was DH's 50th birthday and I bought him a Bridge Climb - and we got organised this week and climbed. The weather was fantastic - sunny, warm and still. Once we got out onto the "arch" and away from the see-through to the water below catwalks and metal ladders, I was OK. The kids loved every second of it! They give you heaps of time on the bridge and the views and experience are totally breathtaking. Whether you live in Australia or are an overseas visitor, this is a "bucket-list" experience!

My favourite thing this week:
Standing on the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge or watching the best ever rainbow and Wombat Girl dancing in the rain! Tough call...

What's working for us/not working for us:
If we are sick, taking it easy.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have:
Who do I send the sick notes to?

  1. Your pictures are gorgeous. Not a chance you would ever get me on that bridge so I can live it vicariously through your family! I also love the book carousel widget. Very cool!

  2. Hi Ingi, stopping by from the Homeschool Mothers Journal! Love the pictures. Makes me want to visit Australia which is on our list! I was just thinking that one of the things i love about blogging is how else would i get the chance to make friends and visit with someone in another country while i have my morning coffee in my kitchen? Have a wonderful and blessed week! Katie

  5. Jessica - hard not to take good pics of that rainbow! I like the carousel too.

Katie - I love the blogging world too and all the friends I've made. It's lovely to chat to people who are on the same wavelength, even if they are on the other side of the world!

Say What - everyone is much improved and the sun is shining - what a great weekend!

Heart of Wisdom - I love that video...most women get it!

Off to look at some new blogs now :-)

Embroidery Project - Blue Butterfly

I downloaded this pattern as a PDF from Hoop Embroidery Co on Esty as my first attempt at the technique known as "thread painting"...
